| Message | Being a member of G1MRA (Gauge 1 Model Railway Association), 'Project', a live steam model of an LMS 4F which, is propelled by a single cylinder inspired me to create one of the RWS engines at least by means of exaggerating the 'Project' design into at least one of the RWS engines e.g. 'James' especially when I found out how Hornby created their model of this character. I feel that 'James' isn't the only engine that could be built using the 'Project' drawings. In this case, 'Donald' and 'Douglas' could also be built using the same principle despite the fact that a different type of tender would basically have to be built. Nevertheless, the idea of this is for sake of simplicity in the sense of live-steam locomotives in Gauge 1. Speaking of Gauge 1, am I right in saying that the models used in the TV series were in Gauge 1? You don't have much information on that but I assume that the chassis of each locomotive was comissioned by Marklin while their bodies were comissioned by Clearwater Productions. Please see the picture at the bottom of the "Modelling of Sodor" page. A production Gauge 1 RTR Marklin model can be seen on the set. These were bashed, both body and chassis, into the "Thomas" models. Cheers, Martin |

| Message | Is there a way to convince Hornby to make their Thomas models more Railway Series-accurate? The reason I ask this question is principally because some of these models look ghastly! For example, it would be better if Duck and Oliver were painted Brunswick green with GWR-accurate number plates. What's your opinion?
Totally agree with you, Edward, as a RWS afficionado myself. I don't doubt, however, that Hornby has some agreement with the rights owners to promote the TV series, which logically, would have higher sales too. This is why we've added info about the scale models of 57xx and 14xx, which modellers like our own resident expert, Gavin Rose have used. Thanks for visiting, cheers, Martin |

| Message | I am 19 years old and currently attend college, but a recent burst of nostalgia provoked me to search all that is Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends, therefore discovering this site. I discovered Thomas as a mere toddler (age 2) and it went from there. I have most of the ERTL Die-Cast models of the most detrimental characters of the series (in my opinion). Until last year, I did not know that the TV versions of the stories were based off children's stories. Until I found this site, the Reverend W. Awdry was nothing but a name to me. Thomas was very special to me as a child, and still is, and this site helped me to realize what Awdry wanted his cheeky little engine and friends to convey. |

| Message | Building large Thomas layout and decided to research both models and prototypes. Why haven't I stumbled across this brilliant site before?! I am also collecting the early Hornby Thomas and Friends sets etc. If anyone has any info on these early (1984>)sets I would appreciate it. |

| Message | Interesting site. I have been told that Oliver is based on 1466 that is preserved at Didcot having been saved from the scrap man, this is before the publication in 1968 of the first book it appears in, a year before the South Devon opened. |
