MessageMy father, John Dewitt Poe Jnr, did not speak much about the war, however, he did show me a copy of the book about Dr Wassell and the crew of the Marblehead.

I am very impressed with what you have done with this website.

If anyone has any living relatives who knew my father, please send me an email. It would be great to hear from anyone at all.

MessageThamer E. Spainhour was my father. I noticed you have him listed as evacuated. He actually left with the Marblehead and made the voyage to Brooklyn. There is also a book you should add "The Fleet the gods forgot". It documents the Asiatic Fleet during the war.

MessageResearching Patrol Wing TGENH, and all aviation elements in the Asiatic Fleet 1939-1942. I've sent you a note on the MOUNT VERNON deck log and MARBLEHEAD survivors, and I am still looking for any dope, photos, descriptions, info on people involved with the cruiser's two Curtiss SOC Seagull Floatplanes during the campaign. Aviation rates show up, but aircrew qual'd radiomen of the day do not.

Cheers, Lou

MessageCraig,

The Wassell family is so pleased with all that you have done, to honor the men of the USS Marblehead. This weekend, especially, it is fitting that we pay tribute to all who have given so much for all of us.

Thank you.

God Bless all Veterans and all those who continue to serve our country.

Sincerely,

Martha
Granddaughter of Corydon McAlmont Wassell, M.D., USNR.

MessageMy parents lived just above Dr. Wassell and his wife in Key West, Florida. My father was a young officer straight out of Annapolis and my mom a young bride. The Wassell's befriended them and in a way looked after them.

My parents who are in their 80's now have spoken very highly of the Wassell's and how Dr. Wassell never considered himself a war hero.

MessageI have researched the Asiatic Fleet, the ABDA Campaign and Patrol Wing TEN for many years - the MARBLEHEAD saga is a story worth telling. I'd be interested in any information, accounts, photos of aviation personnel and the ships floatplanes. I'm ex-Navy myself, and appreciate a little of what those fellow endured. MARBLEHEAD carried two Curtiss SOC Seagull floatplanes, and senior aviator was LT Edward Martin Blessman. Besides the other aviation rates aboard (AMM, AOM, etc.), there were likely some radiomen who were aircrew qualified. Can anyone ident them?

MessageAs a member of the Corbitt family. I want to thank you for the great work you have done in keeping the memory alive of the brave men who served with distinction on the USS Marblehead.
My uncle, George Albert Corbitt was one of those men.
Having served in the military myself. I know this is a special task you have undertaken.
May GOD Bless you.
Thanks again.
