MessageThrough your website, Dr. Wassell's daughter and granddaughter Martha McAlmont Seeton-Magee visited me and my parents at our home in Connecticut to share memories of Dr. Wassell. It had been greater than 50 years since the Wassell's lived just below my parents (My father was a young Lieutenant right out of the Navel Acadamy) in Key West, Florida.

A very memorable experience, thank you.

MessageMy relative that served on the USS Marblehead goes back further. I have many pictures of the Marblehead at sea, in front of the Statue of Liberty, and have pictures of sailors possibly in Hawaii and Alaska. My great Uncle was Thomas Adams and served sometime in the 20's or 30's. I was pleased to see what heros the people who served after him were and are. We are losing these heros very rapidly. God bless each of the sailors who served on this fine ship.

MessageMy Dad was Fred W. Sevey and was aboard the USS Marblehead when it was attacked. He was 25 years old at the time. He was awarded a Heroism medal for his service aboard the ship and is also mentioned in the book "Where Away". He never talked about his experiences and I'm deeply sad to say that he died before we were truly interested in trying to find out. Thank you for your website. Our daughter is getting married in April, 2009 and will carry her Granddad's medal in her wedding bouquet in memory of him and those who served our great country. I miss him greatly!

MessageI have found these sites very interesting and highly informative.

I am amazed that so many sites exsist and involving such an interesting and vocal group of people. In my family, I found the men very closed mouth in regard to their involvement in WWII.

Thank you for taking the time to put this information on the internet as otherwise most of this would have remained hidden to us.

MessageI work at the Senior Center in Wilmington, NC.
A woman volunteer here said her husband served on the Marblehead. I found your site via GOOGLE, printed the info. and gave it to her for him. He is 83, and I am sure he will enjoy it. Thanks for your work on WWII info. I am almost 70, and have vivid recollections of uncles/cousins and neighbors going/coming during WWII, and immediately thereafter. We have a WWII group that meets monthly at the Senior Center. Of course, the group gets smaller every month. They are a great bunch, men and women. They will be missed. The Greatest Generation.

MessageThanks for this WEB page. I just read the book Where Away about the battle of Makasar Straights and the crew's fight to save the ship. I found the book in a sale bin at a used book store recently. It is very nicely illustrated with pen and ink drawings depicting many scenes from the battle to save the ship.
I am loooking for a couple of other copies of this book to give as gifts. Again thanks for you great web page. I am retired Navy and greatly appreciate your work.

MessageI was sitting at my computer and wanted a new screen saver. I am retired Navy and so was my father. I remember him telling me that his fist ship was the USS Marblehead. He served from 1933 to I believe, 1937. It was great seeing a picture of her in San Diego in Jan. 1935. It is now my screen saver.
