MessageThanks for this WEB page. I just read the book Where Away about the battle of Makasar Straights and the crew's fight to save the ship. I found the book in a sale bin at a used book store recently. It is very nicely illustrated with pen and ink drawings depicting many scenes from the battle to save the ship.
I am loooking for a couple of other copies of this book to give as gifts. Again thanks for you great web page. I am retired Navy and greatly appreciate your work.

MessageI was sitting at my computer and wanted a new screen saver. I am retired Navy and so was my father. I remember him telling me that his fist ship was the USS Marblehead. He served from 1933 to I believe, 1937. It was great seeing a picture of her in San Diego in Jan. 1935. It is now my screen saver.

MessageDoes anyone know if a reunion is planned this year? My Father In Law, Joseph R Leinweber, would love to hear about one. I don't know if he'll be able to attend, as it would depend on the location, as he doesn't get around too much anymore, but maybe he would like to give some input or we could send a video of him if he can't makeit. We are currently living in Knoxville TN.

Please email me if there will be one, and I will let Joe Sr know.

Thank you,
Jan Leinweber

MessageDr. Wassell and his wife, Madeline, were very good friends of my family. Madeline was my Godmother. Our lives were enriched by knowing and loving them. On a whim I did a google search for Dr. Wassell and found this page. Thank you for keeping this important part of history alive. Though they are no longer with us they will remain in my heart as alive and wonderful as they always were. Patricia Walker
