MessageMy twin sister (geraldine) and brother (Nigel) were born to Dorothy Penfold and Joseph O'Neill and left with our mother for Canada in 1953. I would love to touch base with any family that is still in the area. My daughter and I are planning a trip to England late August early September and would love to meet up with any long lost relatives. We lived at 29 Ensleigh Road with our grand parents. Much time has passed but memories are still vivid.

Hope to hear from family.

Messagesmilie What a great site. I was born in Merstham in 1960, living first in Mansfield Drive and in 1967 and then moving to Sutton Gardens. I first went to furzfield and then in 1971 to Albury Manor untill 1976 when I went into the Army. I have some very happy memories of those days, running free across the fields and local farm land, what innocent mischief we got up to, Playing on the motorway building site, all gone now. returned briefly after the Army from 1987 to 1991, when I used to drink in The Feathers (where my ex partner "Silve" used to work behind the bar, and the Railway Arms before we both moved to the Lingfield area. Then in 2002 I met up with my now present wife Linda and we now live in South Devon, but again the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, how I miss the green hills of East Surrey, but it never is the same as happy memories. Keep up the great work on this site and I look forward looking at it again, maybe returning some day to meet up with old frends and visit old memories.

MessageNever left the Borough really in 53yrs.Played in the footings of Furzefield School when being built. There was a pond where the playground is.Merstham has changed people wise.We were nearly all Londoners when first built (LCC Estate).I remember going to the sweet shop in Nutfield Road,South Merstham at the age of 6 and being refused to be served sweets because I came from the Estate, ahh those were the days.I spent hours and hours building camps in Radstock Way woods.Learnt how to climb trees and break limbs.I have been back recently and the woods has returned to it's natural state.I work with Albert Noyce,Steve Head and Dave Silvey who all went to Albury Manor in its hey day.Was a member of the 4th Reigate (Merstham) Scout Group at the Epiphany Church,Mansfield Drive.Played football for Merstham Newton.I trained at R.Whitakers,Station Approach,Merstham no longer there.Have great memories of Merstham all three parts of it.I hope the present residents enjoy their environment as I did.

MessageWhat memories when reading through the letters and looking at all the old pictures. I was born in Brook Road and then moved to Wood Street when I was 12. I joined the army, married while serving and then settled in Reigate. I moved away from the area in 1990 (we all do things we regret)but my heart has and always will be in Merstham and surroundung area.

MessageI lived in Nailsworth Cres in the 60s and 70s, went to Furzefield school and my brother Martin still lives in our old house with his family. I live in Cornwall now and haven't been to Merstham for 5 years but basically the place hasn't changed that much. Love the curry house in Portland Drive, can't believe how much the shops have changed. Remember Forest Stores, Threshers, The Chippy, Hunters Greengrocers, Dewhursts butchers, the shoe shop, Goodriches. I can remember the flats by The Iron Horse being built, the Griffin was still a pub as was the Joliffe Arms. My Mum and Dad are both dead now, they died in 2001, would love to hear from anyone who might know me. smilie smilie smilie

MessageIn reply to Angela Gillen (fomerly Noyce)
Hi Angela, my family lived at 82 Portland Drive from mid 50's then moved to 47 Mansfield drive.

I'm sure I went to school with one of your brothers, I was in Furzfield late 50' and early 60's both primary and junior then went onto Albury Manor in about '62 leaving in the summer of '67 to join the Royal Navy.

Peter Noyce comes to mind........would I be correct ?

MessageHave just discovered this site. How nice to look at local photos. I lived in Merstham from 1952 - 1961, first in Nailsworth Crescent and then in Taynton Drive. But have not been back for quite a few years now. I wasn't even aware that the Griffin had changed it's name. My mum and dad used to like the odd drink there on a Sunday lunch time, especially when family were visiting.
