MessageHave always ben interested in water power, mainly for electricity production. Would like to call to see your installation this next Bank Holiday. end of May 08.
Its nice to see that the old tried and tested power generation schemes are being ressurected into their rightful place. They should never have been "superceded by modern technology". The old methods worked and still do . Far better.
Good luck and many more years running.

MessageWell done for completing the restoration! I will visit soon. Iwas lucky enough to meet Brian a few years ago, so sorry to hear he did not see the project complete. My Dad was still alive when Brian showed our whole family (three generations) around the unrestored mill. We were interested because researching our family tree led us to Gayle Mill where our ancester George worked. We were delighted to see George's self portarait and name on the beam! Priceless! Thankyou so much!

MessageHello Friends,
after the successful volunteer recruitment days in November, we now have over 70 enthusiastic helpers. Some have already become regulars doing a variety of tasks that are enabling us to get many tasks completed that need to be done prior to opening.
Many thanks to all 14 volunteers who worked extremely hard on 27th December. Despite freezing wind and rain, wood was chopped and loaded into storage. Without this help we would have had a very cold start to the New Year.
Tour guide training begins Saturday 2nd February. Any further volunteers who would like to register an interest can contact admin@gaylemill.org.uk smilie

MessageI was delighted to be at the members meeting last night. When I was chair of Upper Wensleydale Business Association I signed a letter to the Trust appealing for the mill to be a working mill once again, not a museum, craft centre, or apartments. I have over the years been disappointed with the lack of progress. That has been caused by the owners the Civic Trust North East, who employed coantactors from afr away and seemed have little control over them. Local support has been pateiemtly waiting and waiting.
Last night after hearing the newly appointed manager, I really do believe things are now on track for opening Easter 2008. Wood is being sawn and used within the building. Green energy is in place.
It now needs losts of free publicity by the public and by tht media to kick start the income it deserves.

Messagesmilie Hello Friends of Gayle Mill,
I hope you have enough posters and flyers to let everyone know about the Volunteer open days at Gayle Mill that we are holding on Saturday 17th and 24th November between 11am and 3pm.
Find out if you could help visitors enjoy this unique piece of Dales history.
Come and see what's been going on and have a chat with us about using your interests and skills as part of our new volunteer team. You could become one of our guides.
There is no obligation if you find that it's not for you. Light refreshments are available.

MessageAlthough up to now little news has been released there is alot going on behind the scenes with Gayle Mill; Gayle Mill Trust who will be responsible for running the Mill are imminently about to sign the Lease with the North of England Civic Trust. Work has been completed on the weir and the leat and water ran once more down the leat recently and turned the Williamson turbine, the oldest one of its kind in the world. This turbine is now fully commissioned and with the water power from Gayle beck has turned the Victorian line shafts workings in the mill. The other two turbines in the mill are almost at the point of being commissioned. The biomass boiler has also been commissioned and is ready to provide renewable heating power for the mill. Inside the mill work is ongoing to restore the Victorian machinery. Once the lease is signed and machinery fully restored it is envisaged that the Mill will be open to the public by next Easter 2008.

If you are not already, please become a member of Friends of Gayle Mill, for a small fee of £10 we keep members updated with an annual magazine and periodic newsletters and also social functions. News of the official opening of Gayle Mill will be circulated via the Friends so this is a good way to keep in touch and to find out accurate opening dates and up-to-the-minute progress.
