MessageYogi was my idol growing up and Thurman was the toughest, most competitive player in the '70's. I remember an entire saloon filled with weeping men, eyes glued to the TV. I think of the more recent Yankees, Paul O'Neil played most like Thurman. Today, we buried the owner of the bar mentioned above. I know Jimmy wanted him in the HOF as much as I do. Jimmy organized many bus trips to The Stadium and they were some of the best times of my life. One trip, they had promotional mugs with a picture in the side wall. The picture was Thurman, so I always thought of him since then as Thermal Mugson. Thanks, Captain.

MessageA true Yankee great!!! Though I arrived on this earth a couple years after he left it, he is still a huge part of my love for the Bronx Bombers. I guess the good Lord needed someone to call pitches. Go Yanks!!!!

MessageThuman Munson was one of the greatest Yankees of all time. He was a great team Captain and he did what he had to do to win. I can't believe he hasn't been voted into the Hall of Fame. If you look at what he did while he played and what he would have done if he'd been able to continue his career his stats would have been with out a doubt Hall worthy. WE miss you Thurman.....RIP

MessageThurm,
You were and still are, my hero. I was raised in Syr NY, in a family of 9 bro and sis...all yanks (but one red speck). I remember being you when we played ball at the park. That day my father woke my brohter and I before delivering papers...I just froze. I couldnt watch the Yanks anymore. It was empty. I have yet to see any catcher in the league take a hit, give a hit, and jogg of like it was FUN! "Ya gotta have fun".
Rookie of the Year 1970, MVPs, World Series, and taken much to early from us. I watched a video recently and cried, like I was 9. A flood of emotion rushed through me, and I froze, again. This is what the HALL is FOR. Remembering, experiencing.
I worked in Ohio years later. I was an Air Traffic COntroller (ironic for me) and controlled at Bolton Airfield. I could not, as of 2000, go to that place. Some day, maybe. I cant do it Thurm.

Thurman could

MessageRookie of the year, 3 gold gloves, 3 world series appearances, 2 rings, an MVP. These would be accomplishments worthy of the Hall of Fame in normal circumstances. The tragedy of Munson's career were not normal circumstances. He earned his way in during his life, he should not be denied entrance because of his tragic death.
