Messagesmilie Richie was my favorite player too. I was born in philly in 62 but at the age of 5 i loved him. My Dad my uncles my mom my brothers and sisters followed my dads lead and hated him. I was always the different one at home. Thats why I became a millionaire.

MessageTo whom it may concern:
This website is awesome. I was born outside of Philadelphia and Dick Allen was my favorite player. I had photos and a poster of him. I couldn't get enough of watching him. I have the book, Crash. I met Allen during spring training in my sophomore year of junior college. I went to JC in Clearwater, Fla.
It was my biggest thrill to meet him and get his autograph.
The ironic thing about me is now I'm a sportswriter...someone Allen wasn't too fond of during his day.
Again to the person who put up this website, fantastic job! Thank you for bringing back memories of an outstanding player.
Thank you.

MessageDick Allen deserves a place in Cooperstown. It is long overdue!

A guy that loves horses, baseball and life in Perkasie, Pa., can't be all bad!

I watched Allen play in Phila. at Connie Mack Stadium when I was a kid. He was an exciting player, with great talent, and awesome power. He swung a 40 oz. bat like it was a toothpick!

No. 15 belongs in the Hall of Fame!

MessageDick Allen -- Superstar
(to the music of "Jesus Christ Superstar"smilie

Every time I think of you I don't understand
Why you didn't obey rules and be a yes-man.
You'd have surely made the Hall and I'd have been glad,
But you went and blew it all by making the bosses mad.
Tell me why you quit the Sox in Seventy-four.
Ain't it true that you could rock the fences some more?

Dick Allen, Dick Allen
How'd you have nerve to be your own man?

Dick Allen, Superstar
You're the best, real fans know you are.

Tell me what you think about your friends at the top,
'Bout the others who could clout, who pitchers could not stop.
Were Gerghig, Williams, and Mel Ott as great as you are?
Could Babe Ruth really call his shots or was that just P.R.?
Could any of them swing a bat of forty ounce wood?
Or were you the only human that sucessfully could?

MessageCounting Joe Jackson as not eligible, I wholeheartedly agree that Mr. Allen is the best player not in the HOF (including all the early year gentlemen, and even Jim Rice, who should also be in). The argument that he did not play long enough is offset by the stats he put up while he played.

Also, the HOF Monitor and other measures used by Baseball-Reference.com put him in.

I remember being at Dodger Stadium his one year in LA and watching play LF with his green glove and batting helmet. Loved it.

Perhaps justice will prevail at some point.

MessageLove Richie Allen, I was a great 60s Phillies fan. On my High School baseball team everyone wanted to wear #15. Rich Allen should be in the Hall of Fame.
