MessageAllen was one of my favorite players of all time! I remember as a young boy going to a game at Shea which somehow I recall being a twin night double header and Allen was with the Phillies duriong one of the games he hit the light tower in left centerfield a monster of a homerun!!!!!! I wonder if any one could posssibly verify this with the date.
Thank You,
JT

MessageOne of my favorite ballplayers. No doubt, a HOF'er. I saw my first MLB game in 1970 @ Busch, and watched him and Torre and Julian Javier on those Cardinals. Maybe one day, the Veterans Committee will vote him in.

MessageI neglected to post my e-mail if anyone wants to reach me to talk about the 1964 Phillies. It is spdicht@aol.com. I was 10 years old at the time and the memories are still vivid, as if it were yesterday. Please contact me.

MessageGreat site. I had a chance to meet Richie Allen at the Johnny Callison memorial. He was a class act, very gracious, very approachable and had a terrific sense of humor. It was great to see him come out to honor my favorite player Callison.
I am working on a book about the 64 Phillies and would love to speak with anyone about this.

MessageLived in NW Indiana in 1972, was 14 years old, I don't know if there was ever a better summer. Old #15 carried the whole franchise on his back, if that summer had not happened there probably wouldn't be a ChiSox today.

MessageThank you, Thank you, Thank you! Mr. Allen is my favorite player of all time. He is the reason I will only wear number 15 in any sport. As a 10 year old kid living in the Chicago area and getting the incredible gift of seeing Mr. Allen play in his 1972 AL MVP season, Mr. Allen made an incredible impact on me. I have told my children stories about Mr. Allen. How he hit 2 inside the park homeruns in consecutive at bats. How Sox manager Chuck Tanner told Harry Caray he would bring Allen in the bottom of the 9th in one game to hit the game winning homerun...and HE DID! To me at that age, Mr. Allen was THE MAN! Thanks for this site, the pics and all your effort. I know it is a labor of love. smilie

MessageGreat website. Mr. Allen was one of my favorite players when I was growing up. I recall he was a great basketball player as well in high school. Would you or anyone happen to know his yearly scoring totals in high school? I found some information on the web that he scored over 1900 points in total but was curious to know how he did on a yearly basis.

Thanks again for this great site and yes he should be in the hall of fame.
