MessageI can only hope he does make it at some date. Richie/Dick simply came into baseball about 10 years to early to make it easy for him. He was an outspoken guy who grew up in a town that enabled that characteristic in him. Of course, why should one act otherwise?

Gene Mauch even said this about him "I've never been in contact with a greater talent. He was held in absolute awe by every player in the league." Mauch also said that Allen never did anything to hurt the team...hurt himself perhaps, but never the team.

MessageSomeone directed me to your site, and though I don't know Allen (I'm far too young smilie) I think you have a great site. I also support an athlete that many people dislike (Albert Belle) and have a site for him like this at albertbelle.net.

MessageI lived about 90 from Chicago. Recently I sent a list of my ten favorite all-time players to a friend. Dick Allen was high on the list. 1972 was a great season. It was exciting every time he came to the plate. Only player I ever saw hit one in the centerfield bleachers at Comiskey. Definitely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

MessageAllen was THE baseball highlight for me in my teen years. To my eyes and ears, the explosion of the ball off his bat has been approached only by that of Ryan Howard. Between 1964 and 1966 I attended 6 games at Connie Mack Stadium. In each game, Allen homered. These included a shot over the Coke sign on the left-field roof, a mammoth drive over the 32 foot-high section of the wall to the left of the scoreboard, and an inside-the-park thriller. I also had the honor of meeting Mr. Allen shortly after his book "Crash" was released. He was cordial and very friendly and approachable. Allen will always be at the top of my "favorite athlete" list. smilie

MessageI grew up in Chicago and Mr. Allen was also my favorite ballplayer. His talents on the field were enormous; a real natural. Watching him day in and day out in the early 70's was a real treat. I also remember him utterly destroying Cubs pitching in the 60's. Most of the time he looked like a man competing against school boys. Thank you Roland Hemond for bringing in Mr. Allen. Thank you Mr. Allen for making my childhood memorable. Sorry Ron Santo - but - you couldn't hold a candle to D. Allen. D. ALLEN BELONGS IN THE HALL OF FAME.

MessageI agree wholeheartedly, not just because we are great friends but because no player in history can match Richies strength at the bat. He is truly deserving of a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame history books

MessageI'm an Allen and a Phillies fan (b. 1957), and enjoyed this site a lot. You've done a great job. Eventually, he will make it to the HOF, so keep up the good work. (It would be great to meet him. I hope that you have!)

MessageMY FATHER AND I MET HIM AS A YOUNG MAN WHEN RICHIE PLAYED FOR THE PHILLIES. IT WAS QUITE A THRILL TO MEET THE CITY'S BIGGEST BASEBALL STAR. I HAVE BEEN HIS AGENT FROM TIME TO TIME BOOKING HIM FOR AUTOGRAPH SIGNINGS. I HAVE A NICE COLLECTION OF ALLEN MEMORABILIA AND AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE. PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING OR WANT TO SHARE A RICHIE ALLEN STORY. IN THE WORDS OF BOB MURPHY, THE FORMER NEW YORK METS BROADCASTER WHO SAW ALLEN PLAY MANY A GAME AT SHEA STADIUM, "RICHIE ALLEN COULD HIT A BALL AS FAR AS ANY MAN WHO EVER LIVED."
