MessageTo true baseball fans:
Here are Dick Allen's lifetime stats:

At Bats: 6332
Hits: 1848
Batting Avg.: .292
RBIs: 1119
Homers: 351
Slugging %: .534
On Base %: .378
Doubles: 320
Runs: 1099

Again, no offense to "the Scooter", Phil Rizzuto, but if he is in the Hall of Fame, then Dick "Richie" Allen absolutly deserves to be in the Hall. Not to mention, he had a longer career. I don't mean to pick on Rizzuto, who I always admired, but he is just one example of players with stats that were inferior to Dick Allen's (there are others) that are in the Hall of Fame.
For some reason, the people that vote on who gets in the HOF just don't like Dick Allen- admidtedly a player who was not particularly popular with the media.
Just my humble opinion.

Best regards to all.
A. Squyres.

MessagePhil Rizzuto is in the HOF and here are some of his stats:

Lifetime BA: .273
Lifetime slugging %: .355
Lifetime OBP: .351
At bats: 5816
Hits: 1588
RBIs: 563

These numbers pale next to Dick Allen's numbers. Sure, he (Rizzuto) played on a lot of winning teams. However, look at the players he had around him: Yogi Berra, Johnny Mize, Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Joe DiMaggio, Hank Bauer, Mickey Mantle, etc...

If Rizzuto is in the HOF with his numbers- let's face it- average stats- then Dick Allen should be a shoe-in. End of story.

Dick Allen for the Hall of Fame!

Great website.
Keep the faith.

Sincerely,
A. Squyres Sr.

MessageGlenn:
Great website. Richie, and he will always be Richie to me, was a great ballplayer. I wish he was in the HOF. I wish more folks would bring him up when they talk of great ballplayers and solid hitters.
Keep up the goowork and keep the faith.

Best wishes,
Lisa.

MessageI think your site is great. I go back even further with Richie and he allways will be Richie to me. In the 1964 season he only lived 5 blocks from me in West oak lane, my introduction to baseball was Richie, he has been my favorite player in the game no matter what team he has played for, so yes to the Hall Of Fame.

MessageGrowing up in Chicago I attending many Sox games from 1968 until 1980. My fathers worked for Drovers National Bank on the south side. Dick Allen was the best ball player I ever watched in a White Sox uniform. I hope he gets the opportunity to get in the Hall. Good Luck!!

MessageNice website. I was always a big Dick Allen fan. I agree, I think a big part of what keeps himout of the HOF is some peoples perception of him. Also, he didn't mind speaking his mind. Btw, is he the guy who said, when asked about Astroturf said: "If a horse won't eat it, I won't play on it."
Good site and keep up the good work.
Sincerely,
Alex from Texas

PS- Phil Rizzuto (sp?) of the Yankees was a great guy, fine player and commentator, but he's in the Hall and his stats are not really that outstanding. Of course, he had all the ex-Yankee greats and fans lobbying for him. JMHO.

MessageI am Gregory T. Glading. I wrote a published novel titled '64 Intruder. My book is a work of baseball fiction that uses the actual events of the '64 Phillies collapse as its basis. D. Allen is my central charactor's favorite player. All D. Allen fans will enjoy the book. Unfortunately it is out of print and out of date. Nevertheless, anyone interested in the Phillies and D.Allen will enjoy the book. '64 Intruder did get a mention in D. Allen's Wikipedia entry. Any true D. Allen fan who wants a copy may drop me an E-mail at swan.knight@yahoo.com and I will send them a free copy.

MessageYeah!

Loved his introspective artistry
around the first base bag
should've collected another paycheck
as an honorary groundskeeper
then there was the hitting, wow
check out his OPS+ rating of 156!
And his last name is Allen too
Gotta love this guy...
