MessageGreat Site!!

Huge Dick Allen fan my entire life. Followed his career with every team he played for. I only have two pictures in my office; one of Dick at the plate during his second stint with the Phils and one of Dick and myself that was taken when I attended the 1990 Phillies Fantasy Baseball Camp.

Everyone talks about his hitting abilities which were truly great, but I always admired him as an outstanding baserunner. Nobody turned the corners of bases better.

He carried the White Sox during his time there and made the other palyers around him so much better. Who doesn't remember his pinch hit three run homerun off Sparky Lyle to beat the Yankees the second game of a doubleheader in 1972?

I haven't followed any athelete's career like Dick Allen's until Ryan Howard has come along. Ryan reminds me so much of Allen.

Again, great site.....How about more video's???

MessageFrank Thomas no way...Carlton Fisk a close second. Dick Allen was the greatest player to wear a White Sox uniform in my lifetime. He should be in the Hall! Thanks for a great website!

MessageNice website. Dick Allen is one of the most underrated players ever and I enjoy reading about him and his exploits. I even use him in classic fantasy leagues when I get the chance.

I'm too young to have seen him play, but I think you've got a strong argument for the Hall of Fame. Not to get too SABR on this, but how many guys with an OPS over .900 are left out?

MessageTo this day, Dick Allen has and still is my favorite player. I can still see that batting stance and and quick stroke that he had when he hit the ball. I saw him hit such clutch homers as they sailed out of CMS. If I could pick the one person to meet, it would be Dick Allen.

MessageWithout question, Allen from 1964 - 1967 (August 1967 slashed hand injury) was the premier offensive player in the National League. At that point he was the equal or superior of Aaron, Clemente, Mays, Santo, Williams, Carty, etc...This may sound hard to believe, but for all the cracks Bill James makes in his Win Shares bible about Allen, the OBJECTIVE statistical evidence James gathers absolutely supports Allen for the HOF. Re this same book, in his Al Rosen comments, James lists the five greatest seasons ever by 3B and erroneously omits Allen's 41 Win Shares in 1964. Further, in the Fred Lynn comments, he calls Lynn's rookie season the greatest debut by a non-HOFer. Not true, again Allen's 41 win shares in 1964 are far greater than Lynn's total in 1975. I can't say enough about his batting talents - he was Sheffield with a 40-ounce bat and similar to Manny Ramirez as a pure RH hitter superior to his peers. And his baserunning was the equal of anyone in his era!!
