MessageHey, I'm from Richie's hometown, Wampum,PA. I'm currently attending Westminster College and playing football. Richie was, and is still good friends with my family. When my dad was born, Richie gave him and my grandpa a signed ball from one of the teams in the '60s..I think it was the '64 Season. Richie has always been a great friend to both my dad and grandpa. I didn't know much about him or his accomplishments until recently. However, I strongly feel he should be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and I don't see why he hasn't been yet. A man with his character should be recognized and I can't wait until the day he's inducted. It will be a huge relief.

MessageI lived in Chicago in 1972 when Allen was playing for the White Sox. I didn't really follow the Sox at that time, but as the 1972 season unfolded, I heard more and more about Allen, so I began to listen to Sox radio broadcasts (I had no TV at the time). I then went to a number of games just to see him. One quickly realized just what an extraordinary player he was. It was not only his play that was exciting--the home runs, the average, the basestealing, etc.--it was also his sense of of STYLE, which is something, I am afraid to say, is missed by too many sports fans. And he was quite witty to boot. All I an say is: "Come back, Dick; we miss you!"--Michael

MessageDick Allen is not only my favorite baseball player ever, he is my favorite all-time sports figure. I grew up watching him play with the White Sox, and never have I seen an athlete who possessed a more magical presence than Dick had. To me, his not being in the HOF is just another mark of his distinction. And while I would love to see Dick inducted, to those of us who know, his greatness doesn't need any such confirmation.

I believe that Dick may well be the greatest hitter of his generation. His numbers are great, particularly when you consider that he played in the toughest era for hitters in baseball history. But beyond that, the man was an artist with the bat. Who else would dare face pitchers like Bob Gibson and Nolan Ryan swinging a 41 oz bat!?

I also think that there were a number of factors that prevented Dick from realizing his fullest potential. His story is that of a great man struggling to maintain his inspiration against forces -both environmental and psychological - that kept him from having the career he otherwise might have had. Even still, to me he was the greatest; standing with Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and only a handful of the All-Time Greats.

MessageHello, I love your website. I have followed Dick Allen since 1970 and collect his memorabilia. The pictures on the blog site are awesome. I have A.L.S. and now work from home. I have never met Mr. Allen but I am a Partial Season Ticket holder of the Phillies. I have read he is a great guy. I hope one day he is elected to the Hall. Critics argue about his short career. But Ralph Kiner, Sandy Koufax and the just elected veteran Joe Gordan all has short careers. I hope he elected while I'm alive. It would be great. Again, your website is awesome. I visit many times every year.
I don't know what I'll do with my Dick Allen memorabilia but seeing some of the images you have are from Cards and memorabilia. And that's great. I had no interest in collecting 1977 Topps cards after I discovered there wasn't a card of Dick. In recent years there has been a number of Dick Allen cards made by Topps. There are some good images of Dick on several of those cards. Thanks. If there is anything I can do to promote Dick Allens' Hall of Fame just let me know. I do what I can.

Thanks,

Jim

MessageGreat site. Dick Allen is my favorite player of all time. I had the opportunity to meet him several times and he is truly a gentleman. My favorite Allen moment was his game-winning inside the park homerun at Connie Mack Stadium in 1966. It is a travesty that Allen has not been enshrined in Cooperstown. I hope 2010 is the year.

MessageGreat Site!!

Huge Dick Allen fan my entire life. Followed his career with every team he played for. I only have two pictures in my office; one of Dick at the plate during his second stint with the Phils and one of Dick and myself that was taken when I attended the 1990 Phillies Fantasy Baseball Camp.

Everyone talks about his hitting abilities which were truly great, but I always admired him as an outstanding baserunner. Nobody turned the corners of bases better.

He carried the White Sox during his time there and made the other palyers around him so much better. Who doesn't remember his pinch hit three run homerun off Sparky Lyle to beat the Yankees the second game of a doubleheader in 1972?

I haven't followed any athelete's career like Dick Allen's until Ryan Howard has come along. Ryan reminds me so much of Allen.

Again, great site.....How about more video's???
