| Message | One of my favorites-of-all-time music is the Orange Blossom Special, by Dick Solberg. Friends took us to hear his Inside Out Band play in Geneva NY, circa 1975. That is a long time ago now but never forgotten. Here was this bluegrass band and fantastic fiddle player like we'd never heard before. And then they played Orange Blossom Special, sometimes Dick would play that for 15 solid minutes, and this was well past midnight. (Toothpicks literally kept is eyelids open). It never failed to bring down the house. Dick said to me once that I'd never forget this tune, and I didn't. Unfortunately the Inside Out Band broke up but I kept tabs on Dick and he said he was now known as the Sun Mountain Fiddler when I next found him a couple years later at the Cottage Inn in Mendon NY. Doing research for MIDI and Orange Blossom Special made me try to use the internet to see if the Sun Mountain Fiddler is still around. Well, Yes Indeed. And still looking (or acting) not too much different. No one has ever played the fiddle like Dick, Charlie Daniels can't come close. Congratulations on making it this long and providing so much great music!! |
