I still remember Tarlac during the 60's and 70's. We used to play at the old plazuela where most of the kids hanged out. There was a saying that you are not a real Tarlaqueno if you did experience the joy of playing in our town plaza. There were all sorts of happenings such as Inter-barrio basketball tournaments, boxing matches, gymnastics, the flying of kites, the roller blades around the circle and of course who will forget the renting of bikes and scooters. During our fiesta season the carnivals, and the famous long haired Lamplighters who brought different kinds of animals for us to see,(sort of a mini-zoo), the excitement that we got come fiesta time was the talk of the town, the miting de avance during election time, with the local and national politician bringing in actors and actresses, what a day it was. As a kid we look forward to some films shown courtesy of the USAID, and also some early singing contest and dance contest being sponsored by our local government. Those days are gone but I guess it was one of the most memorable days for kids coming from the Ligtasan, Mabini and Cut-Cut, Guevarra St. area who were called the PATIO BOYS.Indeed Tarlac is different nowadays, during our time each and every family from Matatalaib to San Vicente knew each other. Time passed by so quickly but I will never forget the moments that I had during those wonderful and memorable days of my life. |
