MessageThanks to Alan for all the work. I was at CGS from 1956-61. I have contact with Terry Edwards, Delia Lyne, Chris Scott, May Billingham and Gary Young from my year and Helen Amiry and Eileen Brown from 2 and one year below. I worked at Firth Park Grammar School on leaving and then applied to Nonington College of Physical Education in 1963. Since then my life has been an adventure which I am still living. Thanks to CGS and its wonderful staff and Headmaster(Mr Harvatt - hope that's the correct spelling my memory isn't what it used to be) who didn't mind where you came from but worked hard to see that you moved on to be the best you could possibly be!
I will be forever in their debt, especially Mrs Butler (Miss Ralph), Mr Walker and Mr Harvatt.

WISHING YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HEALTHY AND HAPPY 2011!

Messagehave just had a look at the choral society photo for 1957-1958. What a huge body of singers we were. I remember great pride in singing with them, and we were good. Now aged 70 I am still singing, with the Dukeries Singers, another reallu good choir. What a lot of names and faces I remember mostly fondly. If anyone else remembers do get in touch, it would be good to hear how we have all fared.

MessageOver the last few years, I have glanced into the sight many times . The names and pictures brought back many memories (mainly happy ones). I was at the school from 1961 - 1966.Having recently retired, I have had the chance to view the site at length. Seeing the names of many people I remember well has been great. I was not the most memorable of pupils, but if anyone out there does remember me, I would love to hear from them . derek.oldale@yahoo.com.

MessageMost of the snobbery came from the teaching staff.I too came from a working class family and will never forget when harvatt and sanderson made me give up my Saturday morning job delivering for a butchers shop to play in the school soccer team. The free meat i was given was such a bonus for my mother.

MessageIn reply to Ray Wild , I too came from a working class family but found no evidence of snobbery , I went on Mr Fullers trip to France in 1962 it was advertised on the notice board. As for the woodwork exam , I was there , it's news to me that there was any teasing or any thing else untoward.Still living in Sheffield and working for the NHS.
