MessageI remember with fondness sunday school trips to Porthcawl many years ago when I was a child. What a disappointment my trip to Porthcawl was today when I visited with my husband. The beach was covered in litter the majority of which was alcohol related. The town looked drab and unexciting. We particularly noted the number of smokers on the streets and also the number of people using mobility scooters and walking sticks (could the two be related ?). We went into Sidolis for a coffee and the young waitress who served us poured the coffee into the cups, slopping it all over the sides into the saucer. She did not apologise, but simply changed the saucers. I had to ask for a serviette to mop up the slops. After that we had had enough and promptly returned to our car and went home, vowing never to return to Porthcawl again.

Messageyou'd be missing out by not exploring porthcawl, no matter how many people criticise its cheap surroundings, it truely is an experience of a lifetime, the nightclubs and entertainment are incredible, and the views from trecco bay are breath taking. Definately a place for family entertainment and enjoyment :D smilie smilie smilie smilie smilie

MessageAlways wanted to visit Porthcawl, so had a look at your site to get an idea of what it is like. Looked at the gallery to get a balanced view. Wow! Loads of pics of rocks, statues and buildings in the rain. The kids and the Missus have refused point blank to go there. Shame. I thought seaside resorts might have some pics of people enjoying the sun, playing on the beach, walking on the prom, etc. Not in Porthcawl apparently. Websites are supposed to ENCOURAGE visitors, aren't they?

MessageMy partner and I have just returned from a short visit to Porthcawl and must say after viewing the pictures on this website, were expecting lots of rocky black beaches and crap statues.. luckily we had a far better "tour guide", and found there to be beautiful sandy beaches, such as newton and restbay, a lovely pedestrianised town center and also a scenic prom...
dont go by these pictures on this website for gods sake.. or you would never go!!

MessageI am now in my fifties and have fond memories of Porthcawl as a child, when my own grandparents took me. It's a lovely place for children, but I feel saddened that the council seems to have done little to encourage visitors to the area. When I was at Coney Beach last weekend I could not believe how difficult it was for people with buggies and prams to get on to the beach. Every one had to be carried down steep steps. There is absolutely no chance of getting down there if you are in a wheelchair. A slope is not expensive to put in, so why hasn't it been done? Other local authorities have done so much to help the disabled - and it is now a legal obligation - so why not here?
