MessageMy Father used to work for Union Pacific many years ago. He is now almost 94 and has just had a stroke. He talks about "Big Boys" all the time. I was searching for information about Big Boys to take to the nursing home where he just moved into. I was so excited when I found this wonderful site. Daddy had a tiny little newspaper clipping of a "Big Boy" that he wanted me to try to enlarge for him.

MessageUP tracks ran next to my grandparents farm near Ft. Lupton, CO. Although your map does not show Big Boy's running on that line, and memory has a way of getting hazy, I think I remember seeing these engines on that track when I was a little boy in the 40's and 50's.

MessageGlad to see a site promoting the "Big Boys" !! I retired in July and in August was fortunate to travel to the National RR Museum in Green Bay to see #4017. I've been a steam locomotive fan since I was a little fellow and got to see the CN and CP steamers in action !!
The museum in Green Bay not only has 4017 but it is displayed in a very nice enclosed environment. #4017's cab can be entered and one can closely examine her.
The museum also has #5017, an ex A,T and SF Baldwin 2-10-4,Class 5011 "Texas". She is unrestored as yet but is arguably one of the largest unarticulated locomotives -she's beautiful too !
