MessageI am very happy to have found this site. I just recently returned from Abruzzo, Italy on Sept. 17,2007 after a ten day visit. I first had a geneology study done of the De Francesco family and was fortunate enough to meet the great great aunts and uncles of my father who came from Chieti, in Abruzzi - a small seacoast town called Ripa Teatina. In the center of the piazza of the town is a bronze statue of Rocky Marciano, the Heavy Weight champion of the world. His family still resides there. It was a wonderful visit. What I learned is that Abruzzo is the best kept secret in Italy. The beauty was astounding. I visited all of the small towns in the mountains. The tour was conducted by the Abruzzi Website and sponsored by Lamberto Badia. If anyone would like information, I would be glad to share it with you. There were cooking classes, wine tasting, visits to an olive oil company, cheese company, the home of the famous candy coated almonds, the bakeries and so many more interesting experiences. I believe that I left my heart in two small towns, Scanno and Pentocostanza. The life style is beautiful and serene. If I could I would return and never come back. It was the one wish of my life that I fulfilled in this visit and the memories will live with me forever. Loretta De Francesco-Crea

MessageI am researching my grand parents and our family. My grandfather John (Giovanni) Ciccolella, born February 28, 1896 in Pettorano Sul Gizio. He had a brother Joe who came to the US; a brother Andrew who stay in Italy, a sister Carmela, who married Tony Coco, a sister Maria Lancia and a step brother Titino Dentino, who died in California. Any info would be great!

MessageMy sister sent me the info of your web site.
Three cheers for you!
I know the search into records is tedious and time consuming, sometimes futile.
Could someone tell us about the town of Pettrano sul Gizo...that is where we were told the Porreca grandparents came from there. It would be wonderful to just get "a feel" for the country side be it rich, poor or in between.
Thanks.

MessageWhat a great website. I've been searching for my ancestors and the site has given me quite a bit of information, however I haven't been able to complete the pieces of my Porreca Family puzzle.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to contribute and provide so wonderful information and pictures.

I looked at the wedding pictures and noted several Porreca families. Can't help but wonder if they are relatives.

I visit the website often looking for updates in the births. Can't wait for 1860.

MessageWhat an impressive site. My G-G-Grandparents came from Torricella many years ago, Camillo DeLellis and Maria DiPaolo. It is nice to see where they came from and learn some of its history.

MessageWhat a wonderful website. My grandfather spoke of this place rarely, but it was known as the families' home. My parents actually visited there a couple years back, but they only had an afternoon to spend, and it was on a weekend. So lots of pictures, but no chance to really get to enjoy the place...I hope it get to see the mountains...some day.
