MessageHey SSgt. Fogal & Tim Tallmadge, (I think you were Sgt. when I left)! Wow... finally made contact with some folks I know. Feel free to email me at my public email, (see above). I'm currently living/working in southest Ohio. Would love to get to the UP again to tour what used to be the base, show my kids around to all my former haunts, etc. The economy being what it is, I hope perhaps I can find a campground or small cabin to rent up on Big Shag lake. Used to fish/ice fish there ALL the time! I left the area in Dec 91 & can't believe how much I've missed it!

MessageI was stationed at K.I. Sawyer from 1989-95 and work with the 410 SPS on dayshift. I was one of the last cops to leave KI when it closed in 1995. I have been back to the UP countless times to hunt and fish, my most recent trip was 13-18 Jan 09 to ice fish, still know alot of people there. I am one of those people that wish KI was still open, I loved it there. Hey Will Marsee and Joel Scarbrough drop me an e-mail and tell me what has been going on over the last years. I am retired now from the military after a long tour in Alaska. Well take care and I hope to hear from you guys in the near future. Tim

MessageWas at K.I. from 1974 to 1986. 410th OMS. Started out in Tanker Phase Dock. Then crewed 60-0358 (KC-135A). Went to QA 1980 and worked for Bob Schmidt (Harvey Res) my hunting buddy. Worked Bomber Branch Flt. Line a short time. Left in May 1986 to Offutt to join the MSET Team. Lived on Johnson Lake til' I made SRA and qualified for base housing. Then moved into 164 Warrior off the top of Voodoo hill. Still think of K.I. as home. Was only a short drive to where we are originally from, Ladysmith, Wi. My wife Judy and our daughter, Donna have very fond memories of K.I. Our son Justin was born in the base hospital in 1983. Met alot of wonderful people there. Would love to have been able to retire in that area. Was up there a couple of years ago to vist our friends, the Schimdts, Bob and Patty, and was kind af disappointed in the condition of the base, especially the housing area. I know it's tough going through a base closure, and how much the local ecomomy suffers from it, and I envy the people who stay up there and can make a go of it. Thanks for the Website, it's a little touch of home, and interesting reading. I know that name from somewhere, Lani Duquette. Did you maybe have something to do with Trasnient Alert? Knew some people who worked there. Anyway, would like to hear from anyone who might remember me from them good ole' days. GO PACKERS!! smilie

MessageHello supporters of our museum and this web site. I must apoligize for the web site not being kept up. I am sorry to report that our webmaster Gary Jerry was taken ill last spring and passed away this past December. Gary will be missed by his friends and family.
He will really be missed by me because it was him and I who put the new web site up along side the older site. We were really into the new site when Gary became ill. For your information Gary was an alumni of both the 62nd and 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadron's at K.I. Sawyer.

I now have the hard drive that has the new web site on it and I have volunteers who are going to help get us back up and running.

I ask for your patience once again. We will be back very soon.

Keep sending your messages in.

Have a safe and healthy New Year.

MessageActive duty at K I 1977 to June of 1982. Maintenace Supt 2001 Comm, then civil service, commissary and supply until closure. Worked caretaker until 2004.
Am now President of the museum and would like to hear from all of you. Let me know what you would like to see in the museum and on the web site.
Come see us and if you can support us please do. It does cost a lot to keep the museum going and continue upkeep on the aircraft.
We would like to grow the museum and get a building which would house the aircraft and the other parts of the museum.
Thanks.

MessageI was stationed at K.I. right out of tech school at Keesler. I was assigned to the 2001st CS from 1980 to 1982 and enjoyed every minute of it. I relive my time there quite often and look forward to a time when I can re-visit. It was a fantastic place!

MessageI was stationed at KIS from March of 74 until my DOS in May'77. I was a Buff gunner in the 644th Bomb Squadron. Made one trip TDY to Uttapao. Spent time in Guam, Jungle School at Clark and numerous points in between. I was there when we lost a tanker in September of 76 over at Wurtsmith if I remember correctly. I was on alert when we lost a bomber in April of 77. Very sad and tragic in both cases. Had some great times and a wonderful experience which shaped a part of who I am today. Went to the Univ. of MN after my service & just retired from Wisconsin Dept of Natural Resources. Cheers to all of my old tanker and bomber buddies and those who kept us flying!
