MessageMy father was Capt. Walter Gillespie Winslow and my sister sent me the link to this site so I could sign the guest book. My father and Otto were good friends and I know they are talking about old time right now. I remember as a child sitting at my father’s feet as he talked too many of his friends from the Navy and I would listen to all the stories they would tell. Some day I will be able to listen to more stories of the hero's of World War II and the USS Houston. We miss them all dearly but remember, we will all see each other again.

MessageI am Otto Schwarz's sister. No one can be any prouder of him than I am. He was a special and humble man. He tried so hard to keep the memory of the USS Houston and her crew alive and I know he thought of them until the day he went to be with those who went before him. He was proud of everyone of his crew. May God bless tnose that are still with us.

MessageI found this site by accident and thought I would write. My step-father was on the USS Houston when it sank and was picked by the Japanese and taken to a camp... he was injured building the bridge and remained until the war was over. He lived in Eugene, Oregon. On the 20th or 25th anniversary he was interviewed and the article was on the front page of the Eugene Register Guard. He died many years ago from Hodgkins Lymphoma. His name was Robert V. Lamb. Maybe someone knows of him...
Thank you..

MessageMy uncle Joseph Caplicki went down on the Houston, 3/1/42. I was involved in trying to get information and having obtained some, slowly gave up.

I don't understand that if you give the government a name, date of death, ship, why you can't get information from a service record...I will never know his service number, only that he was born in 1914 or 1915. With a last name like that, how hard can it be to find a record? only a couple of family members left that remember him, they have no specifics..Anyone out there can give me any suggestions? Thanks in advance
