MessageHi. Earlier this year I wrote requesting help in finding information on Hugh J. Holthouse, USNR, who died October 14, 1944, on the USS Houston-C31. I received information back from Eric Lien and am wondering if he or anyone else could tell me how to secure a photo of the crew from this ship. Thanks to Eric, I have received a beautiful, colored photo of the Manila American Cemetery, where Mr. Holthouse's name is listed on the Tablets of MIA/Buried at Sea. This picture arrived today, along with a informational brochure. I am going to give it to my friend, Pat, who is the daughter of Mr. Holthouse tonight. I know she will be very touched and also appreciates the help I received. Thank you, Deann Ernhard.

MessageMy father, Albert Krekan was a survivor of the Houston. I have read all the books that have been written about this subject. I also purchased the print titled "Hitting the Kwai" by Craig Cadera. My son is a freshman at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. As I drive through Jacksonville to drop off my son or just go visit, I think of my dad who completed his tour with the navy in Jacksonville. I have been a long time reader and first time writer.

MessageI have known Marvin Sizemore (survivor of the USS Houston) for a long time, I have always been tremendously impressed by what a wonderful person he is. But, I never knew very much of the story about his POW status and the events leading up to it, now that I have read some of the history I can only say "tremendously impressed" doesn't even begin to convey the pride and gratitude I feel to be able to say that I know just one of these amazing men. God Bless Marvin and all these other men and their families. Thank you!

MessageGreat Website, thanks so much. My Uncle Fred (Fred b Quick) was aboard the Houston and was a POW. He survived the war and lived near me in Escondido California. He was always smiling and entertaining. He never talked much about the War. One of my favorite people, miss him and think of him often. though an Uncle thru marriage he was still one of my favorite relatives and was so very good to me. God bless all the Houston crew and all the POW's. may we NEVER forget and find strength in their sacrifice. I plan to go to Thialand and walk the railroad.

Messagesmilie My father and his brother served on the Houston. My fathers name was Benjamin Prentice and shortly after transfering to Subs the Houston was lost. His brother Jack Prentice was lost along with many other brave men. I've been compiling a family history and I came upon this site. I found Jacks name among the dead, but no picture. I think sites like this are needed so people never forget the sacrifices given by so many. If any crew members remember either one I'd love to get in touch with you.
Thanks,
Steve

MessageI plan to give a book review of GHOST SHIP by James D. Hornfischer to Cicero, Indiana, Kiwanis sometime this spring. I was only eleven years old when Pearl Harbor was bombed. I grew up marveling at the ability of our American military people to overcome extreme life-threatening situations and continue with their lives afterwards. The leaders of the Axis nations had no idea of the spirit of our fighting men and the women who supported them. The survivors of the USS Houston were great examples of the best of them.
