MessageWe are in the midst of a dreadful haze, so what a wonderful experience to see visually your colouful and most interesting journey through the Levant. We still recall our visit to you in Beirut and our trip to Damascus. It was I think in 1963 but I may be a little premature. Last week we drove to Phuket. It is recovering well after the tsunami. At the end of the month off to Surabaya, Bali and possibly Lombok in search for someone to help us cope on a daily basis. Continue to have an interesting and safe journey. Love UM and AN

MessageGreetings from a very cool, grey, rain-threatening Amsterdam - particularly so after a week of hot, sizzling Malta! This is the first time I've used a weblog, and I must say it is inspiring to come into the office and read of your fascinating travels - a great diversion when work gets boring! All's fine at Maison Hogeweg, although Cees, the slager, is renovating his slagerij and seems to like starting at 6 am! Sheez..not good for night owls like me..I may have to take up your idea, Charles, of sleeping on the mattress on the balcony (but what happened to the summer?). Caught the last of Amsterdam Pride Sunday afternoon...Johnny Morgan, some famous Dutch blonde sixties singer whose name I've forgotten, and particularly Boney M were fabulous! Black Girl in the rain...dadi da dida... struck a chord with the crowd as we splashed around dancing in the rain! It was a bit of a culture shock to come from relaxing on the beach in a completely non-gay Malta to such a full-on party scene!
Anyhow, back to work, for me.
Cheers,
Love,
Howard, with greetings from Hugo too.
P.S. Your bank account should be slightly healthier now.

MessageHi Charles and Fred.
smilie Are you sure you can remember Damascus seeing you were only 3-4 years old!!!

You don't mention how you got there.

Still a great read and fabulous photos. Did you just sit on the camel for the photo or ride it?

Keep enjoying yourselves and avoid any trouble.
Lots of love Mum and Nick
