MessageHi! I'm an English teacher in NZ and I have many Japanese students - I'm going to recommend your website to them. It's really funny to see NZ from a Japanese point of view. I have been to Japan a couple of times and it's definitely the little things like eating and everyday habits that are often the strangest when you visit or live in another country..
Thanks for your website, it really made me laugh!

MessageThank you so much for this lovely site!
I am a Singaporean working in Japan under the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET).

Looking at your food pictures (I'm Singaporean. If not food, what else??) made me miss home even more! Some of the stuff you wrote really hit the nail... like how Singaporeans go for queues. Sometimes, I think some people standing in a queue might not even know what's at the end of the line! Haha!

Singlish is simply no-frills colloquialism.
Compare 'I am feeling hot.' to 'Wah! Damn hot!'
Our 'mah' and 'lor' remind me of the 'de shio' and 'neh' that many Japanese add at the end of their sentences.

Just my two-cents worth, lah.
Once again, thank you so much for this wonderful site and cute but apt cartoons. Bless you!

MessageI am from the UK and lived in NZ for 12 years. I had many Asian student flat-mates and would show them your site to explain about NZ. The drawings are so cute and observations very insightful and funny. Glad to see you are still here. Pity there isn't more about the authors or maybe that's part of the charm.
Cheers, Woody

MessageStumbled across your website today. Great insights! My family and I have lived and travelled overseas often and the one thing I always do after I've been away from NZ for a while, is go barefoot wherever I can once I'm back home...into town...wherever!

In regard to the note on kidnapping, its not kidnaping per se but the following: - what all NZ parents tell their kids at an early age is, to not get into cars with strangers or accept sweets from strangers. This is because there are weird people out there, especially men. Thus even primary schools tell children that when walking to/from school, should someone you know invite you to get into their car, just say no and walk on.

Hopefully you'll get a chance to come back to NZ again some day so you can write up more notes!

Take care,

Rob Mayo
